The mechanics, in order

Fetch the current package, open it, and Android will confirm that it is about to replace what is already installed. Accept; the swap takes seconds. No uninstall is required beforehand and no fresh sign-in afterwards, because the session is anchored server-side against your registered number rather than to anything sitting on the phone.

The one exception is a signature mismatch, which appears as “App not installed”. That means the copy currently on your phone was signed by a different party than the one you are now installing — in practice, that you originally got it from a mirror. Uninstall the old one and proceed. Your account is entirely unaffected, which is worth knowing before you panic about a balance.

Why there is no version archive on this site

Does the app update itself?

Not in the way a store-installed app would. Sideloading means there is no distribution channel to push anything, so the update arrives as an in-app prompt offering you a new package. Dismiss enough of those and eventually the app will refuse to open until you take one.

Will updating log me out or reset my balance?

It will not. Everything of consequence is held server-side against the number you registered with; the package on the handset is just a viewer. Wipe it entirely, install from scratch, sign in, and the account comes back exactly as it was.

I get "App not installed" when I update.

The copy already installed carries a different signature, and Android will not write over it. Remove that one, then install the new package. Nothing goes with it — none of the account lives on the device.

Should I install a modded or unlimited-money version?

No — and the usual objection is not the main one. A modified build cannot authenticate against the genuine wallet at all, so the balance it advertises exists nowhere that could ever pay you. Meanwhile the package has been rebuilt by a stranger and is sitting on your phone with whatever access it asked for. The trade is entirely one-sided.
